I grew up playing in the AAU circuit and attended Nike, Adidas and Collegiate Camps throughout my youth/teen years. There, I had opportunities to build relationships, be coached by some of the greatest minds in the game, and play against the very best players in the country who still play professionally in the NBA, overseas, and in other leagues to this day. I studied and played three years of college basketball in WA. An injury-plagued career became a blessing in disguise, leading me into coaching where I have found the most joy in hoops. I hope to open the same doors for these athletes that were opened for me and help apply the lessons we learn from basketball to everyday life.

I am excited to continue Next Level Hoops with John as this has always been a dream of mine. Every player wants that extra edge as a competitor. We want to maximize these athletes' skills, strengths and mindset to help them take that leap to the next level.

My name is John Metzger. I grew up in the area and played locally at Galena High School from 2004 – 2008. I was member of the
’06 – ’07 state championship team. I was fortunate enough to play with a lot of athletes much better than myself. This made my playing time nonexistent, but I was able to play with and learn from some of the best basketball players to ever come through Northern Nevada.
I have used those experiences of being part of something great to help transition from a player to a coach. I want to take the knowledge of what it takes to win a state championship and build that same championship culture here with our athletes at Next Level Hoops. I have been coaching basketball for ten years and have loved it more than I ever loved playing. My philosophy as a coach, whether it be with young kids or high schoolers, is to prepare these athletes for the next step. That next step could be middle school, Varsity, or college, but
I know that every player I coach will be a better and smarter basketball player than they were when we met.
